This gave us an initial feeling that our sleep might be hampered by how thin this pad is relative to others. However, I think I need to practice inflating it to the limit, then shutting the valve as quickly as possible before any air leaks out. If you're on a budget and looking to squeeze every penny while still staying comfortable, the Static V2 is worth a look.

That said, I used this pad at 8,500 feet on a 40-degree night without any insulation and just my sleeping bag for warmth. From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18.I’ve recently been on two winter wild camping trips using the Klymit Inertia O Zone sleeping pad with the closed cell foam mat and the Therm-a-rest Z-Lite Sol. The R-value (= heat transfer coefficient) indicates how well the mat conducts heat and is used to indicate its insulation properties. The Therm-A-Rest worked for what they were, but after a while they were not adequate in the width, or in comfort. The Static V line is actually pretty tame compared to some of their other models, but they all focus on providing support in the exact places your body needs, rather than on the whole pad. You’ll enjoy an advanced lightweight sleeping pad that is not only easy to carry but also easy to use and comfortable to sleep on.

I give the design a 5, though this is something each individual will need to test out for themselves.Beyond wishing the Insulated Static V had the same width, thickness, weight, and size all while being a self-inflating pad (I do love the auto-inflate feature! Every ounce and inch truly matter when you are packing all of your essentials: sleeping gear, clothes, food, electronics, and camera equipment.
