I haven't run in a pair of the Atreyu trail, but I did try on Sam's pair which was too small for me.

I would classify cushioning as medium firm in the most positive way, where they feel well cushioned enough for a full day out, however is firm enough to feel supportive over long distances and predictable/protective when running rocky, technical trails. The midsole and outsole are divided into flexible zones, providing increased flexibility and a smoother gait transition, similar to many road shoes.

However, Brooks makes no promises with the Divide 3 when it comes to mud, snow, ice, and especially tight turns, rather marketing the shoe as perfect for runners who frequent city parks or neighborhood paths. While the Divide 3 lacks this element, perhaps that’s part of its appeal, to those who are attracted to the road-shoe appearance and feel.While not as comfortable as a seamless knit upper, we give Brooks props for maintaining a priority of function and affordability while still providing performance. Please consider your individual circumstances when selecting shoe style and size and ensure you are happy with the fit before using the shoes outdoors. This shoe has similar stability and comfort but is more lively, especially when running on technical terrain. I also can’t claim to feel as confident cruising down tight switchbacks in the Divide 3 as I am in my more grippy trail shoes.
