About this deal

We already had an idea that Sera would be spending too much time with Kolis and his fanatics, so I was prepared for their separation but what I was not prepared for was the desperation of her. Her main concern throughout her captivity was how Ash was doing, if he was safe, if he was being harmed, how she could save him. Making bargains with Kolis for his safety and we know damn well if Ash knew about it then he would never allow it. This book could have been reduced to half its size (probably less) and added the fourth book material to finish the series.

Kolis believes that Sera is Sotoria, his long-lost love that was for all account one sided. We see an entirely new side of Kolis we KNEW existed because despite his madness, you feel bad for him in certain moments. He truly loved her, but he was also madly obsessed with her, and this blurred the lines. I truly think he just lost his damn mind a long time ago and maybe once upon a time he was good? I also see a lot of similarities with Malec in regard to how he has been described. I think there is a obvious balance between twins.... there has to be good and bad to balance it all: do we even need to talk about 𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗮 together? they're literally perfection, they remind me so much of casteel and poppy but in their own different way Moreover, Sera is absolutely fantastic. She is even more amazing than before. The strength she has is unreal. What she goes through is devastating, yet she is determined to see her plan through. I was so touched by her resilience and determination, and her will to protect those she loves no matter the cost, no matter what happens to her. Equally so, Nyktos is as wonderful as ever. He may not appear as often as I would have liked, at least in the first part of the book, but every moment with him in it is pure bliss. His character arc has some major development of its own, and, as always, his Daddy Nyktos/Dotting Husband vibes are an absolute treat. If you made it this far then thanks for reading and I missed a bunch of stuff concerning this book. There is just a lot of information that is best read through the book itself. But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

With each new book, the existing characters become more similar with other ones. I’m not sure I can distinguish between Poppy and Sera or Cas and Niktos anylonger. Attes and Nektas read exactly the same to me. But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands. Theories about it being Eythos grew but surprise and honestly should have been obvious to all of us after Attes was revealed to being Cas's ancestor that Attes was the silker HAWKE. Yeah - let that obviousness sink in because I felt stupid. With the help of Keera and Attes they are able to free Eythos soul from the star and place Sotoria's soul within it so one day it will be reborn/rebirthed and Kolis can finally be killed and ended. Which also relates to the confirmation that Poppy is Sotoria (in a way). We also get to see Ash say goodbye to his father before his soul departs and it's.... yeah, I was crying.

Rhain is taken as a prisoner after Kyn finds him and we find out that he can speak to you through his mind (a power only known to a few) and Sera is able to bargain for his life by allowing Kolis a chance to get her to fall in love with him and a chance at a happy ending for them (barf). Thankfully he is let go safely. I’m going to ramble a lot but I think this book was so necessary to the greater fbaa world. Jla saw everyone complaining about there not being enough understandable lore, world-building, and intricacies of this universe and said here damn I’m going to give you this book lol. Everything makes sense to me this whole book was many lightbulb moments of me going oh that’s why that happened in the fbaa series, that’s why they believe this, this is how this was created and this is how we may be able to fix this. There are so many possibilities and theories running through my head. I’m going to have to reread the fbaa series now that I know the truth and facts because I have so many thoughts of what could happen in the primal of blood and bones. But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates… Unfortunately the last couple of JLA books have really suffered from far too much waffling and poor pacing, this one is no different. I LOVE this series as a whole, the lore is fabulous and this certainly delivers on revealing lots of unexpected twists. However, there is so much repetition with dialogue and unnecessary rambling that drags out the book. The pacing suffers for it significantly and like the 5th blood and Ash book, feels like it could have been half the length to achieve what it did. Especially after the pacing of the first two books, this was agonising at times, especially towards the end. I'm keen to read the final book, but I'm begging JLA to be a little more thorough with editing out waffle. I get that this is deeply rooted in being a fantasy smut but all this poor pacing only kills any tension those scenes could have and make them tedious. We get one final reveal concerning Ash and this is the big one: When was his kardia removed and why??What sets this book apart is the depth given to Ash and Sera as individuals. From book one, I've been invested in their characters, and in "Fire in the Flesh," Armentrout not only maintains but surpasses my expectations. The first 50-60% of the narrative is particularly delightful, providing insights into Kolis's motivations and behavior, adding layers to the story. Firstly, Stina Nielsen always does such an amazing job and I always love listening to her narration and is probably the reason I am giving this a generously 3 stars but I was SO disappointed with this book. I enjoyed the 1st & 2nd book & love the FBBA series but this one definitely fell flat for me. I was so confused with all the chaotic mess for the first 9/10 chapters and was so bored with everything until Sera was finally reunited with Ash. It immediately got better once they were together again BUT *spoiler alert* you’re going to have to wait until a good half way until they are reunited. When I say that Sera and Nyktos are my faves I mean that with everything in me. I love these characters and the world so so much. Sera is my favorite female character, I love that this book focused on her and how she used what she had access to, to get answers and figure shit out. I know that some people may be annoyed with the amount of Nyktos that we got but I loved it. I felt his absence at times but there were also reminders that this story at its core is a love story and that doesn’t change when the characters aren’t physically together.

He never wanted her to die, he tried to prevent it for years and honestly that last word he said before he fed from her ''No'' was all I needed to know that he would never take her life, that it was beyond true when he said he would destroy the realms and everyone in it if she does not exist, that he would be WORSE than Kolis and everything we could ever imagine. I'm late writing my review, but I was travelling and despite the fact I read this (I mean devoured) this book in less than 24 hours. This will obviously be a long review so prepare! Honestly, Kolis had enough creeper moments to make you want to just throw him out the window, but I also saw the soft side of him. How much he wanted her to love him and accept him but then a minute later he would lose his shit and threaten or even harm her physically. He was completely unhinged, and you could not understand how he could think that Sotoria would ever love him. Sera is able to slightly feel her within herself as Sotoria’ s soul is within Sera, and it was obvious from certain reactions from Sotoria that she was NOT in any shape or form loving or cared for Kolis. But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates… Buy The Book:From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her beloved Flesh and Fire series…
